Rev. Dr. Elise Saulsberry is a Memphis-born theologian, author, and community pastor whose work bridges healing, justice, and faith. As Founder and CEO of Remnant Community Outreach, she leads grassroots efforts advancing housing stability, healthcare access, equity, and human rights for marginalized and vulnerable communities.
Grounded in Black Liberation and Womanist theology, Dr. Elise’s work centers education, culturally affirming care, policy advocacy, and brave spaces where people can reclaim dignity. Her leadership weaves faith, community, and justice into action while working toward a future where equity is not the exception, but the standard.
Dr. Elise holds a PhD in Psychology and Theology and a Master of Divinity in Theological Studies with a concentration in Evangelism and Church Planting. Her work is grounded in Black Liberation, Black Lesbian, and Womanist theology and expressed through policy advocacy, interfaith organizing, and public scholarship. In 2023, she spoke at the Summit for Religious Freedom, applying these frameworks to issues of reproductive autonomy and religious liberty. She has also contributed to regional and national public-health and equity initiatives through her service with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Community Advocacy Board, the Tennessee HIV Modernization Coalition, End HIV 901, and other institutions.
“Remnant was born from a sacred ache that builds brave and safe space so people could bring their pain and their praise, where advocacy and human rights could hold trauma, healing, and transformation. My mission is simple: to make home safer and accessible, offer compassionate service, and ensure integrity and justice become the norm.”
